TOP 20 TEENS Website Since 2000, Top 20 Training has been empowering youth to make a positive difference in the quality of their lives, relationships and experiences. The founders of Top 20 Training began this program at Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul. The materials provide easily understood and immediately applicable concepts that help individuals develop their full potential. Top 20 focuses on Thinking, Learning and Communicating. Some topics which are emphasized in the thinking section include using 'the frame' to see a situation in a more positive and productive way, understanding beliefs about ourselves which may help or hinder our performance, and understanding the messages we receive about who we are. Topics covered in the Learning section include levels of listing and goal setting. Finally, communication lessons focus on building a 'trust fund', responding to random negative events and heart to heart conflict resolution. For more information on this curriculum, feel free to stop by the counseling office to borrow a copy of the Top 20 book! 7 Habits of highly effective teens' information The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens can be found in the book of the same title by Sean Covey. The terrific information from this book was taken and turned into 9 guidance lessons geared towards the junior high students. The 7 Habits are: 1. Be proactive - take responsibility for your life and the things that are going to happen 2. Begin with the end in mind - define your mission and goals in life 3. Put first things first - prioritize, do the most important things first 4. Think win-win - search for ways for everyone to win 5. Seek first to understand, then to be understood - listen to people sincerely 6. Synergize - work together with others to achieve more 7. Sharpen the saw - take time to renew yourself regularly By mastering these seven habits, we hope our junior high students will be able to improve their self image, build strong friendships, resist peer pressure, achieve goals, and construct healthy family relationships.
